Schools will need to register on the National Tuition Management System to manage School based tuition. Parents and caregivers are able to choose whether they would like their child to receive school-based tuition or private tuition.
School-based tuition
The delivery of school-based tuition by schools and teachers is being managed by Government, Catholic and Independent education authorities in each state and territory who will act as Program Administrators. Program Administrators sent primary schools in their jurisdictions more detailed information about the program during Term 1 2008.
The role of schools in school-based tuition
In cooperation with Program Administrators, schools may manage provision of tuition to eligible students where parents/caregivers have chosen school-based tuition. Schools can support program implementation in a number of ways, including:
- advising parents/caregivers whether the student will benefit most from tuition in literacy or numeracy (where the student has not met the reading and/or writing and numeracy national benchmarks);
- offering options, where possible, to accommodate parental/caregiver preference for one-to-one or small group tuition;
- matching students and their learning needs with suitable tutors in consultation with parents/caregivers;
- locating suitable tutors, including the school’s own staff, to provide school-based tuition;
- referring parents/caregivers to the Private Tuition Coordinator if they choose private tuition for their child.
You can download specific Fact Sheets for schools in each state or territory.
Private Tuition
Private tuition is being managed by the Private Tuition Coordinator appointed by the department. Schools should note that private tutors and tuition companies must be approved by the Private Tuition Coordinator to deliver tuition under the program.
